Craigslist Dresser Revamp

Good morning, Wayman Family Nesters!  (at least I'm hoping for a good day!  By the time this posts, I'll be back to work after TWO WEEKS off! Yikes!  I better get back in the swing of things!  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my students, but I'm not ready to be back!)

Today I'm going to show you a project for the nursery that the hubby and I  undertook for the nursery.  This past summer while perusing Craigslist, I found the PERFECT dresser for our little one's nursery.  I knew it was a little early to be making such purchases, but this one was just what I was looking for and a pretty good price.

Here's a before shot...

First, the hubby took all the drawers out and gave the exterior surfaces and drawer fronts a light sanding with a fine grit 150 sand paper.  Then, he primed it with an oil-based primer (original Kilz) we had tinted at Home Depot (per the instructions of our local friendly paint guy).  He sprayed all the surfaces (including inside and underneath the dresser) with the primer (the dresser smelled of smoke, so we were trying to get rid of that smell!).  He used a sprayer with his compressor for all of the painting.

Here he is hard at work!

Then the hubby sprayed 2 coats of paint (we chose Behr "Grape Creme."  I was going for a grayish-purplish color inspired from my all-time favorite nursery below:

Nursery Inspiration

The last thing he did was prime and paint the hardware.  Loved the beautiful original hardware!  Sorry for the bad iPhone picture, but it looks even better in person!

A big thank you to the hubby on this project!  It looks great and will be one of my favorite parts of the nursery!

What about you Wayman Family Nesters: Do you have any furniture revamps going on right now?

P.S. I'd like to wish my sweet sister a Happy Birthday today if she's reading.  Love you Rachie!

Goodwill Goodies Get a Makeover!

Last week I posted here about my fabulous Goodwill finds.  Well, I'm excited to show you after pictures of a a small project that I tackled.  And by small, I mean I sprayed them with some gold spray paint!  But I'm happy with how they turned out.

Roomspiration Blog Hop & Link Party: Craft Room Edition

Today at the Roomspiration Blog Hop and Link Party you can check out some crafty spaces!  You can link yours up and check some more out at Family Brings Joy.

When we bought our house just over 3 years ago, decorating the extra bedrooms was not a top priority (1 still is your catch all "junk room," but we're working on it!  I dream of a house where EVERYTHING has a place!).  Since our house is small both in size and in storage, I thought an office/craft room would be a good space to throw in some vertical storage.

Once I figured out what I wanted, I begged the hubby to install shelving for me for Christmas a couple of years ago, and he sweetly obliged (as he always does).  One trip to Home Depot and we were in business!  Eventually, we made it to IKEA so I could get some of the infamous KASSETT boxes and my dream shelving was complete!  And boy, did I have WAY too much fun figuring out how to organize everything labeling all of those boxes!  It's an organizational freak's D-R-E-A-M!

Here's a couple of shots of what the room looked like BEFORE (When we bought the house.  I'm claiming neither the carpet nor the curtains!  Or the wall stains for that matter!)...

And here's what my little office/craft space looks like NOW...

Definitely still needs some work (the desk is my top priority in this room), but I am happy with how far we've come!  Now head on over to Family Brings Joy to check out some amazing craft rooms! Pin It

Roomspiration Blog Hop & Link Party: Bathroom Edition

Today we're sharing bathrooms at the Roomspiration Blog Hop and Link Party.  Head over to Homemaker on a Dime to share your bathroom and check out other amazing bathrooms!

Our bathroom is one room in our house that underwent a BIG change! Our "master" bathroom (which is actually in the hallway-gotta love those ranch-style layouts!) was one of the first priorities when we started our home remodel, mostly because we only had one (at the time). It was the only bathroom in our home and it is located in the hallway. We refnished the hardwood floors and remodeled the bathroom before we moved in. The rest of our home rennovations took place while we lived there.
The bathroom had at least 3 lovely shades of pink going on in there.

Here is the bathroom before...

Check out that tub! Now you can see why there was NO WAY I was going to bathe in there! The bathroom was our #1 priority before we moved in!

I spent a few hours busting up tile by myself one night while the hubby worked on other projects around the house. Lots of fun taking your agression out with a sledge hammer!
Here are some pictures of the bathroom in progress...

The demolition was the only part that we did ourselves on this project. We hired a contractor to do the rest of the work.

I wanted the bathroom to have a calming, beachy feel (since the beach is one of my very favorite places to go!). I got my inspiration from the print over the toliet that I picked up a couple of summer's ago in Seagrove Beach, Florida, where we go every summer with the hubby's family.

And here is the finished product! I was very happy with how it all turned out. I wanted the walls to be more of a gray-blue, but it works for now. When I mentioned repainting it to the hubby recently, I thought he would have a heart attack, so I let it go (for now)!

My favorite part of the room would have to be the tile. I knew exactly what I had in mind before ever starting (don't you LOVE when you find just what you were looking for?!).

So there you have it! It is definitely a small space (and girls, who wouldn't love a bigger bathroom?), but we are very happy with how it turned out.

In honor of Roomspiration's bathrooms link party today, I'm also sharing our bathroom over at Shelli's fabulous blog, a'la mode.  So go check us out and more of her AMAZING blog here. Pin It

Roomspiration Blog Hop & Link Party:LivingRoom Edition

Today's the day to share your living room on the Roomspiration Blog Hop and Link Party.  So stop by View Along the Way and link up!

Here's a picture of what our living room looked like when we first saw the house:
Gotta love the blue carpet!

And here's a few pictures of what it looked like shortly after we moved in (excuse the fact that I'm in one and one the phone!  AND excuse the mess in the 3rd one!  We didn't take many before pictures!  Definitely not a lot going on in these pictures.

And here's what our living room looks like as of right now...
The white arm chairs are from IKEA.  The other white chair (on the left that you can barely see) was a Goodwill score for $6.99 that I painted and recovered.  Read all about that project here.  The white shag rug was a gift from my dad.  It's nice to have a dad in the carpet business!  We ordered the ottoman online before we got married.  I'm definitely in the market for a new one.  I'm just not sure what I want yet and I need to pick something that I'll keep for awhile!  The hubby does NOT like it when I change my mind!!!

I have always wanted a gallery wall behind the couch.  These black frames are all from Michaels.  I've been collecting more frames (much to my hubby's dismay) of all different shades/textures/finishes to mix it up more and give it more of an ecclectic feel.  They'll be posts to come when I finally get around to hanging them!  The end tables are loaners from my sister in law.  The brown glass lamps were a gift from the hubby for my birthday a couple of years ago.  The green pillows are from pottery barn.  The yellow rosette pillow and the gray/yellow floral pillow are both from Target.  The floral Union Jack is from a local store Lulu.  Read more about that here

This end table by the front door and mirror are both from adorable local gem called Three French Hens.  If you live in the Nashville area, you must check it out!

In the frame is one of our wedding invitations that a sweet lady from church took and painted the church where we got married at the top.  It will always be one of my favorite wedding presents!  The candlesticks are from Anthropologie and the pear candles are from Lulu.

The silver picture frame is from Pottery Barn.  The clay bird is 1 of 3 that I have from a local store called Shimai.

The hubby and I bought the TV stand from a local store called Southeastern Salvage.  We painted it white, distressed it, and put knobs on it from Anthopologie.  The media towers are from IKEA.

There you have it!  It's been a work in progress, but it will stay like this for awhile!  Did I already mention that the hubby doesn't like it when I change my mind?! : )  But if anyone has any suggestions for an ottoman that would work in our living room, I'd love to hear them! Pin It

Backsplash Is Up! (2 1/2 Years Later)

Woo hoo!  You read that right!  It only took us 2 1/2 years to get around to having our kitchen backsplash tiled. But I ended up with tile that I really love.  There's the silver lining to that cloud!  While the hubby was recently out of town for 10 days (read about my scardy cat self here), I surprised him by having the backsplash tiled.  A big thank-you to my parents for being our financial backers and paying for the project for us as a gift.  : )

Here's what the kitchen looked like when we first moved in...

Here's what it looked like as we started the remodel process.  What a mess!

More pictures along the way...

Here is the kitchen finished minus the backsplash...

And here's the kitchen with the recently completed backsplash!

I found the tile here on Overstock thanks to a tip on Abode Love, one of my favorite blogs.  Check out pictures of her beautiful kitchen here

Do my Wayman Family Nesters have projects that go on like this?  That are one step away from being finished?  Please tell me I'm not the only one!
